Disable CD-ROM autorun

• Navigate to Start > Run and click on Run.
• In the input field, type "regedit" and then press enter.
• Navigate to the following key in the registry by clicking on the +'s next to the folders in the left pane (see picture below).
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Cdrom
• Locate a key called "AutoRun".
• Double click the key.
• Change the value of the key to 0.
• Click OK.
• Close regedit.

Once again helpful tip.
Is there any way to disable the Windows autioplay?? Not the cd autorun, but the windows pop up window which comes as soon as you insert the cd.

I just can't get over my fear of messing with the regedit. I'm afraid of messing something up that I can't take back.

Ah, confessions of a cluts.

hehe I used to be like that.. but its not that bad really.
I tend to use programs like RegCleaner rather than editing the reg straight out, unless I am given clear instructions like above which actually work.

Yes, autorun is certainly annoying. Thankfully I have disabled it on all of my computers so CD's aren't being played right away on insertion.
