Disable Services

XP Pro runs a lot of services by default that are pointless if your not on a corporate network, the following services are ones that I safely disable thereby freeing up memory but check what each one does first to make sure your not using it for something:

Go to Run and type services.msc, right click on each service, properties and choose disable.

It should also be mentioned that one should disable these components with caution. Disabling a service that shouldn't be can wreak havoc if not carefully performed. I would say the Administrator should be the only one to perform such a task. It can be enabled again, although everyone isn't knowledgeable in this area, so you have to be very careful.

Are you saying disable ALL those services you listed? :shock:

More than half of those services are required by Windows, and should not be disabled.
Eg - PLug and Play - disabling that would mean Windows doesnt detect any hardware you plug in!!

Background Intelligent Transfer - I believe this is vital to the running of the PC!

Universal Plug and Play Device Host - needed for hardware!

Net Logon - needed for any network logon.

IMAPI CD-Burning - obvious!
