Disabling preview in Windows 2000 explorer

You know that preview you get for audio/video/image files on the left side of Windows Explorer?

It freezes my computer, especially the video preview.

Is there a way to disable this in Windows 2000?

I can only find Windows XP fixes which do not work in Windows 2000.

Can you try this?

1. <Tools>
2. <Folder Options>
3. Unselect "Enable Web content in folders"
4. Click <OK>

I have been wondering the same thing. I use Windows 2000 and am trying to rename a whole lot of MP3's but its very slow because of the preview.

Turning off web content makes the folder look like the old Windows 3.1 or something.

I know there is a way to do this by just removing the entry in the registry for previews as I did it a few years ago. It's a shame I didn't write down what I did.

Yes, as Jess said that just gives Explorer an 'old windows' feel about it.

I'm sure there is a way to do it with keeping that left hand side pane intact.
