DVD Player Issue

I'm posting this here because I truly believe it's a software issue, not a hardware problem.

Whenever I put a new (not burned) DVD into the DVD Player on my computer, the machine chokes and restarts. It repeatedly restarts until I remove the DVD. This doesn't happen with DVD's that have been made on my computer or other computers. It only happens with NEW DVD's.

I was trying to install Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 10 which comes with a DVD instead of an install CD.

I've run HP updates, Windows Updates...all my drivers are up to date. I looked for a firmware update, but didn't find any. I've uninstalled ALL of the original DVD/Graphics software packages that have come with my computer. I'm at my wit's end.

I'm running an HP a810n with an AMD Athon 64, 512 MB memory...Windows XP Home SP2....

Any ideas? Even if it's from the beginning? I'll try anything at this point....

Any and all suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Ian
