Exclamation How do I remove things in add/remove programs?

First I want to again thank you for helping me on my last issue, but although I know Windows XP really well, from time to time I still find new things that I can't fix.

I have a few things in my add/remove programs folder that are there, but either don't have a install log, or don't seem to be installed but the program is still listed or something along that line?

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

-Brian

If you have any Windows XP or Vista issues feel free to send me a Private message or an E-mail me directly. I have above average knowledge and experience with primarily Windows XP or Vista issues. If I don't off hand know the answer I will research it to further my competency in the program.

Microsoft has this pretty well documented in KB 310750: Removing Invalid Entries in the Add/Remove Programs Tool:

To remove a program reference viewable in the Add/Remove Programs tool:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
  2. Locate the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall
  3. Locate the key to be deleted by locating the key name created by the program. If the name of the key is not apparent, browse through each key and note the value for DisplayName. This is the viewable string in the Add/Remove Programs tool.
  4. Using the Registry menu, export the selected registry key to make a backup. Store the .reg file in a safe location in case you need to import it at a later date.
  5. Delete the selected registry key and its values. Do not delete the entire Uninstall key.
  6. Quit Registry Editor.
  7. Verify that the reference in the Add/Remove Programs tool is no longer visible.

Of course, if you really want to remove the program entirely, you still have to find all of its files and all of it's registry keys. This is a real weakess of Windows shared DLL and registry model.
