Improve Your PC SPEED !

Hi friends !

These are a few handy tips that will make your pc faster !

1) Disable all the programs that u don't need after the start up !
these programs slow down your pc !

Steps :
Start > Run > msconfig > Start UP/Services > Disable which u don't need at the start up ! like yahoo or msn messenger or and other automatic software which slows down your PC start up !
You can also disable windows error reporting services if you get them an error on the start up .... like send error report or not !

NOTE : DO NOT DISABLE IMPORTANT SERVICES.

2)Disk Cleaner, Disk Defragmenter (both built in XP) at least
once a month helps keep system clean and error free.

3) Proper use of Antivirus (avoid with too many useless
services) and Anti-Spyware helps big time

4) Disable prefetch:

Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters
Name: EnablePrefetcher
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0

The following list describes the different possible values for the EnablePrefetcher key. To disable Prefetch, set the Value to 0.

0 = Disabled
1 = Application launch prefetching enabled
2 = Boot prefetching enabled
3 = Applaunch & Boot enabled

5) Remove prefetch:
Go to “C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch” and remove all the prefetch objects from the folder, Only remove the prefetch for the program you don’t use or don’t have them any more.

6) Disable System Hardware Devices:
Devices like Modem (if using broadband), extra network adapters, Multimedia (like game port or my MIDI device), PCMIA etc can easily and safely be disable from Device Manager depending on the need.

Disabling and removing prefetch to improve performance is a myth.

It will actually decrease performance. :eek:

That's a bit of a topic switch, so I started two new threads, one on speeding up your BIOS bootup and the other on speeding up your Windows bootup.
