Vista - Microsoft’s Vista Upgrade Advisor - You need it!

Microsoft’s Vista Upgrade Advisor is a piece of software you download from Microsoft, run on your computer to scan for possible system and device compatibility issues before you decide to upgrade to any of the four version of Vista. It creates an easy to read report of potential issues and then makes recommendations on how to resolve these issues! If that weren’t enough, the VUA breaks down into four separate reports so you can see which version of Vista best fits with your computer right now.

I ran VUA on my PC and found I could run Vista Basic and Home Premium pretty easily but in looking at the reports for how my PC would run Vista Business or Ultimate... well, that’s when things could get a lil ugly! I’d have to make some changes both in the software and hardware currently running my computer.

Running VUA sucks up a lot of system resources (what Microsoft app doesn’t?) so your system could be pretty useless while it does its thing. It’s not a fast check either so I’d go make yourself a cup o’ tea or a Pepsi while you’re waiting! Once it’s done, a screen will appear that tells you if your system is ready for Vista and which version of Vista would work best with our current PC configuration. VUA breaks down in to separate lists potential problems relating to your software and/or hardware!

I highly recommend running VUA on your system before going forward with any Vista upgrade or install. While you may have all the hardware you need to run any version of Vista, VUA will point out possible compatibility issues with software too. The last thing you need to do is install Vista and discover (the hard way!) it doesn’t like any number of applications you’re happily running on your PC!
