Beta testers who are not MSDN subscribers will be able to obtain the Windows Vista Beta 2 in the coming weeks via the Windows Vista Customer Preview Program (CPP).
The WinFX Runtime Components Beta 2 is already available to all beta testers.
Windows Vista is Microsofts replacement for Windows XP. The scheduled release date for Windows Vista is currently November 2006 for business editions, and January 2007 for consumer editions.
The new features of Windows Vista include an updated graphical user interface (GUI) and visual style dubbed Windows Aero, improved searching features, new 'multimedia creation tools,' and completely redesigned networking, audio, print and display sub-systems.
Vista is designed to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network using peer-to-peer technology, making it very easy to share files, password settings, and digital media between computers and devices.
Vista also has an entirely new development API (Application Programming Interface), called WinFX, based on the .NET framework, which is designed to make it easier for developers to write applications than Win32.
In the past, Microsoft Vista was codenamed Longhorn. Vista was originally expected to ship in 2003.
