No Shutdown

im having trouble with my computer shutting down lately. dont know why but whenever winxp displays the shut down screen n saves the personal setting, the message "waiting to shutdown computer" is drivin me crazy! this thing lags forever (7mins at most i waited for XP....but no shut down). i have to reboot and log on again to shut down a second time. Why is the shutdown screen giving me problems now? How can i fix this problem?

This is a known issue and is documented in KB Q307274: Windows stops responding during Windows XP shut down.

Alternatively, as this bug is caused if "You have the Welcome screen turned on", just turn the Welcome screen off.
  1. Start
  2. Control Panel
  3. User Accounts
  4. Change the way users log on or off
  5. Uncheck “Use the Welcome screen”
This is only a good solution if you do not have multiple user accounts on your system.

I also have this problem sometimes. But i have multiple users so can not disable the welcome screen.
Hopefully MS will release a Windows Update for this...

As the article I referenced states, this is fixed in Service Pack 1.

I checked two reasons why windows wont shut down properly: (1) the East Asian character is installed in your computer-this lets type in all worldly languages (2) have multiple users accounts

I have both; I've decided to disable the windows logon window so far shut down isnt a problem anymore: just type the user name and log in (on the next startup the computer displays the user name who last log on)

no patch required!!!
