"It is Now Safe to Turn Off Your Computer" removal

Microsoft's Support Site had a big checklist to go through, which didn't quite work.

Fresh format/install WinXP Home
P4 3.0ghz
200gb Maxtor SATA
Radeon 9550 256MB
512MB RAM

When you tell it to shut down, it says the error message "it is now safe...blah" then you have to do it manually.

If you press the power button while the computer is on, it immediately shuts off.

Any ideas? I'm all out :/

I have never seen this problem occur on Win XP, it's usually a 2000 problem.

Go to Power Management in control panel, you should be able to see ACPI management. I believe you need to untick this option.

I have never seen that message when shutting down my computer. It usually just shuts itself down without displaying a message.

Same here, I don't get a message that tells me to shut down my computer, I'm using Windows XP.

It must be only in Windows 2000, I do not get that in XP.

I too am having the same issue, I've done pretty much all the steps that Microsoft's KB article 810903 says to do.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810903/en-us

I have Windows XP Professional, this isn't simply a Win 2K issue, I've resolved this before on other Win XP Pro machines by following KB 81093.

Not this time...

I have a newer ECS K8T890-A (ver1.0A) motherboard.
I also checked setting in the BIOS, this manual claims to be ACPI compliant, yet changing those settings doesn't result in any good shut downs.

MOBO: ECS K8T890-A (ver 1.0A)
HD: Barracuda 160GB SATA
Video: EVGA e-gForce 6200TC, 128Mb
RAM: 1Gb DDR PC3200

What now???

What if you're the Administrator and message says contact your local Administrator???? Who do you contact then when you're in trouble??

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power Options.

Note If you are using Windows XP, click Switch to Classic View in Control Panel to more easily follow these steps.
2. Click the APM tab.

Note If you are using multiple monitors, the APM tab may not be available.
3. Select Enable Advanced Power Management Support, and then click OK.

worked for me
