Which operating systems do you use? Windows (any) or Linux or any other? I use Windows XP and 98. Post here.

Hi. Thanks Lyte for editing the thread. I voted for Windows XP, but I also use Windows 98 like I mentioned in my thread.

I am not going to vote since I can only vote once.
I use:
Windows XP SP1 (easier for registry work imo)
Windows XP SP2
Windows Vista Beta - I liked it. AERO is sweet. Kinda slow with ony 756 RAM but should run good on my new comp that I am getting. Mic isn't working though.
Ubuntu Linux- not really using it, just have it if people have problems on here so I can walk them through the specific process .
Fedora Core 3 - Use mostly along with XP SP1.
Fedora Core 5 - Just got it installed about a month ago and like it. Going to delete FC3 in a lil' while.
I know it's alot of OS's. Most are on partitioned drives. The SP2 is my sister's and mom's comps. I use FC and XP the most. There's just so much more you can do with Linux.

I use XP-Corporate (no games on it.....just like XP Pro) , 98se and Ubuntu Linux (just learnng this Ubuntu Linux)! I want to get (hopefully for Christmas, a 250 GB Hard drive, partion it up to have 2 operating systems on it. I'm NOT going to waste my $$ on Vista !!

Linux is a fun operating system to learn IMO. It has a lot of features that you aren't exposed to in a Windows environment.

What's wrong with 98(se) ?? I have used this OS for years now, not a bit of trouble with it. All patches installed and backed up daily !!!

Rep Power: 3 | Im all XP and Vista, which is coming out quite nicely, basically, all microsoft, im totally anti-macintosh. I know that people, millions of them, use macintosh every day, and love it, but being a windows user all my life, i cant take the mac interface, i seriously cant work on one.
Linux, being open source, is pretty awesome, and ive only used it once. From that one experience, i considered partitioning my drive for both windows and linux.

| You dont need a program except linux, you just partition your drive, or if you have two drives..i think you get it. Its just a matter of setting up the boot menu correctly.

Rep Power: 0 | The operating system I am using is currently Windows XP and I think that is the most commonly used OS. I have never used or saw a computer with linux or unix OS on it. Although I haven't used either OS, I have heard of it's advantages and disadvantages. I remember someone told me one time that either it was UNIX or Linux are immune to many viruses or is just Windows based viruses? For Christmas, I asked my cousin to purchase me one since he works at Fry's Eletronics. If anyone here is a Linux or Unix guru, please inform me with the details. For I am unfortunately, a Linux and Unix newbie. | |

Rep Power: 3 | UNIX based stuff is less prone to any type of virus, especially many of Windows viruses. Linux is UNIX based, just has a gui interface and other bells and whistles that vary with different flavors of Linux. You friend doesn't need to purchase linux at all. Thats the beauty of it, it's FREE(free as in open source). You just download a version that you think you might like, and put it on a blank harddrive or just partition your existing HD, and put it in a new partition. There are already a few posts on how to go about this. If you need more help, just let me know

Rep Power: 2 | I use Windows XP, but that is probably because microsoft developed it. I figured that if one of the richest companies in the world decides to create something that makes the majority of their income, they are going to make something decent.
There are occasional problems, but nothing that can't be fixed.
I don't think I'll get Vista for a while though. Just in case some bugs need to be fixed. | |

Rep Power: 3 | My vote was for windows xp because windows xp is much fater, much secure, much crunchy, also alot of new addons for windows xp are available in the market.
