Run trouble

I usually use run to open up cmd prompt, taskmgr, etc. It's giving me a massage that the file is in use by another program. This is weird! Has this ever happened to anyone?

Which file is in use?

It's depends on what you're trying to open, not the run prompt itself. Strangely enough it means the file is being used by something else...one of the more helpful windows error messages .

For example, some spyware is hard to remove because you might try to delete the file but it will give that error, usually because it's running as a process, so go to task manager and kill it

I tried to open up taskmgr by pressing alt ctrl and delete but it didn't work. I also can't use the regedit or cmd commands through run.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe

in the run prompt


I can't remember, it's a long time since I've done it but there are ways of adding anything like that to use a short name via the run prompt, I think it's to do with C:\WINDOWS and C:\WINDOWS\system32 being in your system path, right click on my computer, in one of the tabs you'll see a button called "Environment Variables", click it and you'll get a new window, in that window there should be a system variables thing which shows "Path" with some options, check that those directories are in there and if not, add them, that should allow you to run anything in those dirs from the run prompt by just typing the file name without the full path. Sorry I can't give you any specific instructions, I don't have access to windows at the moment, if you can't find it I can post more specific instructions some other time.
