[SOLVED] Win/2000 shut down question

I have an older Gateway that I have put Win/2000 on. The system works good except for a shut down problem. At first after starting shut down it would come up with it is now safe to turn off computer. Under Win/98 it had shut down itself. I went into power management in control panel and checked the allow button, now it goes into a reboot instead of a total shut down. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hey lehatche,

Sounds like you're not the only one with this issue...

"It is Now Safe to Turn Off Your Computer" error message..."

Peep this...

CAUSE ...

This behavior may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:
  • Your computer supports the Advanced Power Management (APM) feature, but the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACP)-compliant basic input/output system (BIOS) is not configured correctly to permit the operating system to turn off the power supply.
  • During an upgrade of the operating system, Windows does not detect that the computer is ACPI-compliant.
  • An OEM device driver or service is installed on your computer that is preventing the computer from correctly shutting down.
  • Your computer is not ACPI-compliant.
Follow the link because it gives you some solutions. I've not read the whole thing yet... I'm on my way out the door! Read through it and let me know if it helps.
