[SOLVED] WININET.dll

A friend brought her laptop by and wants me to fix it. I thought at first it was just a lil' virus and nothing too bad. Turns out, I can't even log on as a user. When I try to log on, the WININET.dll file was missing and explorer.exe will not open. I am trying a few things through safe mode now to see if they work. If you have any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Try this... you may have to download it on your computer and then transfer it over....

Here you can download wininet.dll free of charge.

Lemme know if it works!

Thanks Lyte,
I think I ran into a similar DLL site like that but wanted to try something a little simpler(is that a word? lol). Will see what I can do tonight without downloading anything. Getting a little late to be tackling the project head on. Thanks again for the info!

Yeah, not sure how you're going to even do a Search for the file if you can't log in. If you DL it then at least you know you have and where you've saved it!

Yup, downloading the program now. I am still messing with the laptop to see what can be done and what I might not have to do. Kinda a learning experience for me too .

Well, I downloaded BART PE, a bootable cd that I recommend to everyone(will post a link when I get the chance, just google it for now). Added a virus scanner to it and burned the iso. It caught 47 files infected with 9 trojans. Still ain't workin though...

Hey fire... dang, looks like you have your hands full!

Do you know exactly which viruses they are cuz behave differently and know which ones you're dealing with will tell you what (if any) other damage they've done.

They were a bunch of downloader.g and trojans like that. I have to get into the registry and clean it up somehow soon. Kinda hard to explain it without writing a book, so I'll ask questions as I go. Just keeping ya'll informed.

Laptop finished! Was going to clean the registry and do all that good/boring stuff but decided to just transfer the files to an external HD, wipe it clean, and reload XP . Thanks for all the help and info!
