Speed Up Windows XP Boot Up

There are quite a few techniques available to improve the performance of Microsoft Windows XP during system boot up.

Here are a few to consider:

/noguiboot

Add the /noguiboot to the options in your boot.ini file. This will prevent the Windows logo splash screen from wasting your time during the boot process.

Disable Hardware Devices

If you disable hardware devices that you do not use, those devices will not have to be initialized during boot up.

You can disable unnecessary devices using the Device Manager.

The path to the Device Manager is Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager.

Disable Services

Disabling services you don't use not only speeds up boot time, it also improves overall system performance by conserving CPU cycles and available RAM.

You can disable unnecessary services using the Services tool.

The path to the Services tool is Start -> Run -> services.msc.

I always go to Services to disable things when I first install Windows.
Then after Ive installed my programs, I'll use msconfig to remove unwanted start up items, seems to keep my system booting relatively fast.

If you switch the service to Manual, the service will only start if you start it.

If you switch the service to Disables, the "start" menu option will be greyed out until you switch the service to Manual or Automatic.

hmm

will , would please sort out some really really less useful services ? I mean you may put some less important services name with their detailed ( more descriptive and easy than services description) , so that we can decide which one I should stop.

thanx in advance.

The trouble is that what is important to me may not be important to you, and vice-versa. You really have to look at each service individually.

Man, I could write a hundred FAQ's on that one.
