Starting PC in Safemode

I'm trying to delete a virus and need to start my PC in safe mode. I'm supposed to hit F8 but when I do it says choose: HD, CD or start player. What am I doing wrong?

uhhh... I guess it is interpreting the F8 key as a select boot device key. Try waiting after the BIOS goes through and then keep hitting F8. It should work at some time during the boot up process, but maybe you are pressing it too soon.

I have a custom built computer that does the the same thing your asking about on how to get around.

When I need to get in Safe Mode in my computer I go though the following steps to get around this boot from menu.

Boot PC & hit F8 like always
When the Boot From Menu comes up press ESC Then quickly hit F8 again

This should then take you to the boot mode menu

I had to fix 7 different viruses in a client computer just the other day using the same way to get into Safe Mode then using NOD32 In Depth virus scan to detect & remove 7 different types of virues/rootkits etc.

I tried again hitting f8 like 50 times and it worked.
