Vista - Will you or won't you

There seems to be a load of different opinions about the new windows OS. What I want to know is will you be getting it and why?

Personally i'm just going to wait until I need a new PC and then, no doubt, it will just come as the standard OS on it. I'm not that interested to go out and actually buy it for my current computer.

I'm in the "wait and see" catagory!

I've not read anything that tells me Vista is a must have! Typically, I never buy the first year of anything (e.g. new car style, pc hardware or software) because it's in that first year that the bugs are detected and (hopefully) worked out!

I totally agree, firstly I don't know any OS which is a must have. I have never chosen an operating system, I have just chosen the computer and then the OS just comes with it. Also as Lyte says all the problems get sorted out in the first year so hopefully by the time I get a new PC everything should be fine.

To be honest the only reason I would buy Windows Vista is if it had some ground breaking feature that had never been seen on anyother OS before. Otherwise I would just wait until I bought my next PC. I'm 100% happy with XP Media Edition at the moment and I'm sure I will be for a long time.

I heard that Vista is just an interim release anyway, much like ME was an interim release before XP.. why buy it when another release will be out "soon" after?

Hello.

I'm still using Windows 98 is there a big difference between it and Vista? I was saving money for XP. Should I get Vista instead?

Hey Ash,

Well... there seems to be a consensus that Vista is NOT a huge leap (technologically) ahead from XP. So, for me it would be a matter of price... what's Windows XP going for right now vs. what Vista is going for once it comes out.

I'm looking at Windows XP Pro - SP2 for $125.00 on eDirect Software. I doubt Vista will be that cheap.

One word = Linux.
Free, works great and more stable.
I have XP pro and like it fine. Might get Vista later on, but a crappy company makes a crappy OS, things haven't changed I don't think.

Budget problem? Then, go for a pirated one! It works all the same, lol. I'm now using Vista Beta 2, well, I like the Windows Aero (the user interface) very much, believe me, it's really good! However, there are a lot of incompability issues with programs and hardwares. If you're a die-hard gamer, I recommend you to wait for another half-year before upgrading.

Oh yah, bad news, Windows Aero will only be installed with the requirement 1GB of RAM, 128 MB graphics and 1GHz processor speed. And well, IE7 stole all the features from firefox: especially tabbed browsing. A smart move, MS. Also, IE7 Beta 3 is available for download for XP users. Check it out!

If you don't mind to wait, I suggest that you buy Vista instead of XP. But, if you're a frequent computer user (that uses a lot of programs), wait until the next year, probably around June before upgrading to Vista.

If your computer is Aero-capable, the answer for your question, is WHOA, that's like a difference between stairs and escalators! The interface is extremely satisfying, outpowering any Apple GUIs (since MS did stole Apple's GUI features as well).. especially for it's Windows Flip 3D and the new glass-like windows. Anyway, for stability, it is almost the same with Windows XP, nothing much changes.

I won't wait for Vista until I get a new PC. Need a new PC, because of RAM and space and other specifications.

Regards.

Yes, I will purchase vista when it comes out. I've already seen the beta version and it is very nice.

Looks aren't everything, I've used it and will probly get it on down the road, but it's not that much of an improvment.

I'll wait till it becomes the standard and I need to use it. So far I don't need this and XP home edition does the job wonderfully

Consider they're locking down the reinstallation* procedure for Vista, I'm *so* not going to buy it.

* - As in, the license is tied to the first(or second machine) you install it on, and no more.

Huh?! What? Does this mean if I hose my computer... twice... and have to reinstall Vista for a third time it might not take?
