Oh no, there's no feeling like a dweeb here! No one knows everything so there's always something new to learn!
I've not experienced that problem. Lemme pull out one of my (many) PC books and see what I can find out. <--- Yeah! Something new for me to learn!

Rep Power: 3 | Hello Erianthia,
To start the proper Windows 2000 command prompt, either use Start->*Accessories->Command Prompt
or
Start->Run and type cmd in the run box window
This is the same as Windows XP.
*some times you have to go Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt, depending on the menu layout you have setup.

Rep Power: 0 | Windows 2000 - Command Prompt? OK, I tried it from the Start Menu - Run - CMD and it takes me to this DOS screen prompt:
c:\Documents and Settings\My Name>
Any idea how I can get to the original DOS command prompt of c:\ ?? |

Rep Power: 6 | Hmm! I see what you're saying!
I have a Dell and when I go Control - Access - Cmd Pmpt ... I get... C:\Documents and Setting\"User Name"
I tried it under safe mode which gave me a login for Administrator. But even under that I got... C:\Documents and Setting\Administrator
BUT, at that prompt I can go d: and arrive at d:
I'm wondering if it has something to do with a setting in the Control Panel. BRB

Rep Power: 3 | Starting with windows 2000, the DOS prompt and DOS, completly dissapare from your system, you will no longer have a true DOS shell to access, only the new windows command prompt.

Rep Power: 3 | yup . If you really want to get to c just type the following into your shell(command prompt). This will take you to the roots. cd stands for change directory. Hope this is what you were asking

Rep Power: 6 | HEY... that did it!
Ya know, I never had to get to the shell and I've always thought type the directory letter and full colon was enough to change to any directory. Heck... it works to get to D: Shrug!
Thanks firestorm.

Rep Power: 3 | Guess I should make a list of common shell commands for both Windows and Linux. Will see if I can find one and add to it
