Rep Power: 3 | Windows Media Center edition Windows Media Center edition is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 (SP1) with an additional application, Media Center, and related supporting services. XP MCE runs only on media center PCs, which include modern processors, fast video cards, FireWire connectivity for attaching a DV camera, a TV tuner card for interacting with a cable or satellite signal, and, optionally, other multimedia features, including a DVD writer, surround sound speakers, and front-panel access to the types of memory cards used by most digital cameras. |

Rep Power: 3 | No good at all
I prefer not to use Windows Media Centre personally.. I find there is other software out there that does the job better. |

Rep Power: 3 | I feel that its been long since windows came up with a new version of XP so they released Media Center. For us, i dont see any benifits.

Rep Power: 3 | Yes, it is an OS. I dont really see its benifits. I think it can act as a DVR and is like a big WMP in my opinion. Its not an improved xp home or pro because they still have those and created SP2.

Rep Power: 3 | I've heard some mixed reactions to MCE. Personally, I like it
It does add a LOT of functioniality as a media PC, and does not require all those things listed by sinja - I tested it on a Celeron 1.4GHz with 256MB Ram & a 60GB hard drive, and it ran perfectly fine - though ideally, you wouldn't want to run it on anything less than a 2.8GHz / 3000+.
While I like it, there are many out there that won't - plus it's only of any real use if you actually require a media centre PC, otherwise you'll suffice perfectly well with WMP. |

People always put down Celeron's, but these days they can run just about anything you throw at them.
I have one Celeron system I built with 512MB RAM and a cheap FX5200 video card and it runs like a dream. |
