Windows Vs Linux

Which One would you Prefer > Windows or Linux OS ??

I would go for Windows.

Here is an Article that boasts about Linux Capabilities against Viruses and Hackers.

http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/188

I think Linux OS are less vulnerable to be infected with viruses because they aren't much popular and Hackers are not much interested in Hacking or making Viruses for Linux OSs as they acquire very less % share in OP market. And creating viruses would not affect most of PC world !

What do you say ?

I say FreeBSD.

But seriously, it's an issue of the right tool for the right job.

Windows for desktops; Unix for servers.

out with windows xp in with Linux

I just purchased Linux 2006 c/d and I want to install it on my PC .
As I have lots of problems with windows xp # 1 it was installed when I got the PC and I can't get the key from seller how do I go about getting xp out and run it in linux or it would be better to just buy new windows ? But I think linux is better than windows xp .

Do you have any data on the machine which you wish to preserve?

Which Linux distribution are you using? Is that Mandriva Linux 2006?

You can't really say which is generally better, it depends what you use it for, for technical users, Linux is better, for servers, Linux is better, you'd have to be mad to run a server on Windows. But for the average home user, at the moment Windows is better.

I think it's more that most hackers use Linux, and a lot of Linux hacking does go on, most of the internet runs on Unix based OS's.

As for viruses, only lame script kiddies write them and most of them don't have any idea how to use Linux, except maybe the odd case of "l0lzz!! UbUnTU iZ lYk3 s0000000 c000l!!!"

Are you certain of that? Reading your post I'm thinking you might not have used Linux before.

Yes Linux is better than Windows, if you know what you're doing with it or have the time to learn

That's one of the downsides of Unix -- you can't just dip your toe into it. To love Unix, you must dive deep into it. Then, you wonder why people put up with Windows.
