Windows XP - E-Machine W3052 Issues...HELP !!!

Hello All,

I help a friend that has an E-Machine W3052....running XP. Problem, when you turn on the machine, you get the "E" logo...at the bottom it say "Press <F-2> for Bios Setup & Press <F-10> for Boot setup". Now when I press any of this (F-2 or F-10) I can not go any further.

BUT...when I disconnct the HD cable, I CAN get into the Bios or Boot set up. I then set it up to boot with the CD-Rom first. Then I save it and re-boot. (My friend has 4 CD recovery also). It say it can not detect the HD, so I power the machine off, re-connect the HD cable, & start over.....I can not get any further than the "E" logo. I evn took out the battery for about a 1/2 hour. I've tried taking out the "Ram" and re-installing it.

Any suggestions....PLEASE ???

it sounds like the HD may be hooped. do you have an old HD that works that you can try in place of the one in question? if the bios sees that one then you know...

you also could try the HD in question as a slave drive in another computer to see if it works. from there you can run some drive repair software, if necesary.
