Problem - XP Major Problem !!

Hello All,

I have a Dell OptiPlex GX270. I bought it at a auction and it didn't have a "hard-drive" in it. So, I put in a 30GB HD and then proceed to install XP on it. Everything when fine. Now when i boot it up, instead of going directly to the XP screen....I get a message stating "Invalid Configuration Information--Run Set Up Program"
"Preforming Automatic IDE Configuration"

Then I press F2 and then it goes black. My monitor goes to sleep (little white message saying this). I try tuning it off with the power switch in the front..no luck, I have to "unplug" the machine. I even hit F12 and get safe mood options or start XP normally. it dies.

I have taken out the hard-drive and replaced it with another I know that is working....same thing happens.

I have removed the memory sticks (4 slots)replace them one at a time, I have taken out the battery and put another one in that I know works.(Waited 15 minutes).
I have check every connection in this machine........every thing hooked up right. Even replaced the power supply. !!

Still does the same thing !! Anybody got any ideals on what might be causing this ??

Hate to send you some place else but that's a new one on me Doc! Peep this thread on G2G as it sounds similar to the problem you're having.

Lemme know if it helps.

What happens when you get to the screen giving you the option of Safe Mode or Start XP Normally? Have you tried both Safe Mode and Normal? Do you get the same issue? Are the HDD jumpers correct, and is the HDD detected in the BIOS? Have you tried re-installing the XP OS? Just a few things I was curious about when I was reading through your thread. Let me know and I'll see if I can help. I have had similar issues on some of my clients machines.
