CommView packet analyzer and ip address 169.254.x.x

I tried to use commview v5 , I disbaled wired card and I used wireless card, i found this ip address as Local 169.254.242.9 (windows default) and this ip address as Remote: 38.101.111.18

1- Why have I got this type of ip 169.254.242.9?

2- Why there are two colors under "Packet" Tab,,,blue and purple ?

see the link below

If you have an IP address in the 169.x.x.x range, Windows has assigned you an automatic IP because it did not receive one from your DHCP server.

Microsoft uses the 169.x.x.x range for these "Automatic Private IP address (APIPA)'s".

Can you describe your issue with the tabs more clearly? I'm color-blind. ops:

I am aware of that, but my point (sorry I did not explain it very well) is that ip address (169.x.x.x ) communicated with real ip address (38.101.111.18 ),,,Can this happen ? and this ip address has been assigned to wired card which disconnected from internet, I was connecting to net via wireless card.

When I clicked the "Packet" tab, the entries come with different colors, see the link below please:

Perhaps Microsoft just isn't too careful about which address it is reporting? That's an odd one.

I still can't see the blue and the purple that you are talking about. They all look the same to me.

Does one color correspond to incoming packets (<=) and the other color correspond to outgoing packets (=>)?

Unfortunately, I'm still color-blind.

Perhaps someone who isn't color-blind will wander into this thread.
