Creating Avis or Videos

Do you ever notice those moving graphics that people have set as their icons? I would love to be able to make a video for someone as a christmas gift. What sort of programs could I use to make those?

Macromedia Flash is probably the best. I have never used it but thats the most popular one out there. I am pretty sure it is pretty expensive though because most of Macromedia's products are. You can probably find a trial on download.com or if you dont mind breaking the law you could find a torrent. There may be a free option out there though, so wait to see what other people say before downloading it or buying it.

The thread title said "creating avis...." so I am assuming by icon he means avatar.

I'm a she..

Yes, I mean creating avators. On some message boards, people use those as their icons. I've also seen "videos" that are like a mixture of pictures and music. That's what I want to create.

I want to have words moving across pictures, with music playing in the background. But, I want to use a program that is a tad bit more advanced than PowerPoint.

Use Adobe ImageReady to make animated GIF's. Then you can use it as a buddy Icon in AIM also.

EDIT: Oh wait he meant .AVI's!
You can use anything. Bryce 5 for 3d scenes. A camera and Adobe Premier or Pinnacle for video editing. You can't use .AVI's as icons, they are huge files.

I use flash and imageready but i don't make .avi's with them. If you want to make an animated movie flash is best and if you wanna make icons you should use imageready. Flash can also be used to put videos on them and alter them (a pretty new concept)

You can use Animation Shop to make animated .gif's, and Microsoft's Movie maker for .avi files.

You can make videos relatively easy if you use Windows Movie Maker.

You can use Fraps and then import those videos into Windows Movie Maker for more compression.
