Dell Laptop Admin & CMOS password issues and removal

I have been seeing a lot of posts on many forums about the problems with getting laptops from eBay and other auction sites with them being locked by the CMOS admin and user passwords. Dell will not help you unless you are the original owner, & registered with them, of the laptop. There are many solutions to these problems, from software programs for creating backdoor passwords to actually shorting out the EEPROM that stores this info. I have been collecting info on all aspects to help get this resolved for those people that are unfortunate to get one of these laptops. To help out we set up a website at theonlypcdoctor.com, I hope this helps you out.

Did you know that you can transfer registration of used Dell's from the original owner with only the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the PC?

The URL to do this is: http://www.dell.com/us/en/dhs/topics..._015_ccare.htm

With all due respect sir,
Your info is nothing like the other. Transfering ownership is fine if you can prove you bought it. Have you seen the pdf that is being offered? Im not trying to be smart, but honestly there is no comparison.

Dell doesn't require you to prove that you purchased the laptop, they just require you to claim that you purchased the laptop.

I'm sure the PDF has more information -- it's 90 pages! However, the data currently in the FAQ works and is free.

They dont require proof? I wonder how they know if you stole it or not then
At any rate, you are correct. Free is better but I did gain quite an understanding about the internal workings of a laptop. I found the info worth it

I'm just a cheap *******.

Another great source of data on laptops is the service manuals.

For example, here is the service manual for the Dell Latitude L400 and here is the service manuals to the Dell Latitude CP and CPi.

Not all manufacturers provide the same quality of service manuals. IBM had the best service manuals when they were in the PC business. The Dell manuals are decent. HP's are OK. Some of the other vendors are just awful or even nonexistant.

Dell C600/C610/C810 bios fix

On these models i have a fix. The only way I'll do it is the unit is sent to us. Takes less than ten minutes and we do not short out the board. Removes the both passwords on the Dell C600/C610/C810 bios fix. Most likely it works on other Dell models hwoever these are the only ones we've seen so far.
thanks

Does your company have a web site?

Generally speaking, I do not like to send computers away for repair. In this case, there appear to be methods that work for free and without shipping anything anywhere.
