Firewalls

Once and for all, which is the best firewall software out there?

I have been using Zone Alarm Pro for years now but I keep hearing people talk about Black Ice, is this a good firewall?

Also, some people choose to use firewalls from Norton but Im sure these aren't as good as ZA etc.

Opinions?

I use Zone Alarm too, and I love it.

I'm very accustomed to how it works.

Yes there are other firewalls out there but why move from something that works?

I use Kerio Personal Firewall and it;s good. I use a very old version: 2.1.5. It's really good and low on resources.

I havent tried ZA Pro but I dont even want to go for Norton because it's so much more resource intensive to do simple jobs which a lot of software does better.

I use Windows XP's built in firewall and I am quite happy with it until now.

But from what I've heard here and there, everyone has a bad opinion of the built in firewall.

Yep. I'm one of them

I dislike the inbuilt firewall with XP SP2 thats why I never install SP2 now.

I find it really annoying, it pops up all the time and I had no idea how to stop it.

You can double click on the network icon on the systray to go to LAN properties.

Or you can go from Control Panel and then go to the Advanced tab and there you need to uncheck to disable the firewall.

Also, I think there is a service associated with it which you can disable.

I use the Norton and Windows firewalls. They both work great, in my opinion. My computer is very clean and it seems pretty safe. The Windows one is free. If you dont have a firewall, you should download it.

And in my opinion that is the single most worst combination of software in history.

Windows Firewall = a piece of junk that a) doesnt work and b) is damn annoying.
Norton = a system hog and a whole host of other bad things which I wont go into.

I'm using Kerio 2.1.5 which is a very, very lightweight program that gets the job done. It doesn't take up too much memory or slow odwn the computer. Even though it's a couple of years old, it runs beautifully.

Kerio Personal Firewall is free for home and personal use.

For home users, Kerio Personal Firewall 4 is available in two flavors - the full edition and the limited free edition.

After installation, Kerio Personal Firewall works as the full edition for 30 days, after which it becomes the limited free edition.

The limited free edition does not provide the content filtering capabilities such as blocking pop-up windows, ads, VB scripts, cookies, etc. and other extra features.

You can download the Kerio Personal Firewall from here.

Since its free, Im assumings its nowhere near as good as the firewalls you buy?
I find free anti virus not up to standards, are free firewalls the same?
