The ones I know of are GAIM, Miranda, Psi, Admium and Trillian.

All of these except Trillian support Jabber, which is the protocol used by GTalk.

More information is at What is Instant Messaging?

Trillian is a good one. I used it until recently. But for a newbie it somewhat appears a bit complex to use.

I use Trillian too as I need ICQ and MSN

I didn't find it hard to set up, in fact its really easy to use

I could never get Miranda working though for some reason.

I used to like Trillian until they made their new version. It uses too much RAM :? .

Well, the ones that I've heard of are Trillian and GAIM.

I'm currently using GAIM now. It's a little buggy but its definitely worth it because its FREE!

Some might, but I doubt it. The most featured pack combo IM software is Trillian, so I'd start there before trying another combo.

Another Trillian fan here. I found it to be super easy to set up, as well - the newest version, anyway.

Im gonna have to say Trillian as well. I love all the cool skins and mods you can add to make it look pretty good. It's also pretty efficient.

I have used Trillian for several years now. About 3 or 4 months ago a friend of mine was testing out Gaim. I decided to give it a shot as well. It pretty much sucked.

We were talking about the recent announcement of Gaim 2.0 last night and we both said that there is no way, we are more than happy with Trillian.

Trillian works well for me with no issues. Gaim always had problems, at least for me.

I use Trillian too, though I have to say I just started using it recently, but so far I love it. From what I've heard they are suppose to be working on support for google in the near future as well.

IM compound

I also recently downloaded Trillian, and I didn't find it complicated whatsoever. In fact, I don't know why I didn't think of that before. It's very easy to set up all of your messenger programs, and it's easy to use. I then deleted my IM programs to have just this one. So simply and easy!
