Google's New Web Browser "Chrome" - TEST DRIVE

Well, I took the plunge and downloaded Chrome!

So... at first blush... it's kinda... monochromatic in color.... the individual buttons don't stand out as well as they do on Firefox...

And I'm not digging the tabs at very tippy top of my monitor....

I'm not seeing it move any faster than my Firefox or my Internet Explorer.

Anyone else wanna give it go?

On the plus side... it does ask you when installing if you want to import all your settings, passwords and favies from FF or IE!

I'm finding it to be a kinda choppy when I go from page to page or site to site. The pages don't resolve gently... smoothly... cleanly... shrug... it's not pleasing to my peepers!

As....Jayne stated, it's in "BETA" form, give it a few months. I d/l it and it is fast, plus it's "open source"......like Fire-Fox.

A Good friend of mine d/loaded IE-8 and crashed his PC. He's and my self being Microsoft Certified ® had a chance to tested IE-8 6 weeks ago.........so far...NO GOOD !!!!

If they stick with the design, then I won't be a user.

I realize it's BETA but... damn Gina!! This thing is not pretty! There's no reason why they couldn't release it with some form as well as function! I mean... first impressions tend to be lasting ones. Ya know!

Yep - I didn't like it very much - too minimalist with very few customization options for my liking. I think the ultimate browser would be something that offers the end user a wide variety of customizations right out-of-box and definitely be easy on system resources.

What Google Chrome is missing IMO:
  • Bookmarks ordering manager to easily order bookmarks
  • User customization (ie ability to order toolbar placement)
  • Options to import settings from all installed browsers
  • No full screen mode?!?!? :-/
  • Address bar with option to add separate search
  • Feeds integration would be nice for new "streamlined" browsing
  • Integration to check Googlemail would be wise (aka integrating Google features)
  • Integration to track adsense and other google-only implements (analytics, etc...)
  • An optional sidebar to easily access bookmarks, downloads, history, etcetera would be nice
  • More options to customize site-specific preferences (ie show images, block popups, etc...)
  • Additional options to customize the ugly, blocky & waaay different appearance
  • A better way to store website passwords and such whilst keeping browser integrity safe

I do like the speed of browsing - it is quite quick loading pages. The privacy feature is interesting and novel - but seems incomplete... I sort of like the look of the tabs up top - but most will probably hate it LOL --- It's an interesting beta - but there's just so much missing IMO

I would say that it's better than IE though :P --- Pages I cannot view in IE load just fine in Chrome and I just hate the idea of the utterly smoothering and ultimately unfair monopoly Microsoft has accomplished by loading IE in all new PCs and other treacherous tactics that have established IE as the "standard" --- IE is substandard IMO and I too have tried IE8 beta - I had to revert back to IE7 because it not only crashed my machine, but made it weird viewing pages in all my other browsers = weird...

I like that Google is taking a chance by introducing the Chrome browser - With a few additions implemented and a wider embracing of user-specific customization - I think it's a possible winner.

Jacquii.

Really like Chrome but not my default browser - Firefox fills that position because of extensions available.

I agree. I like FF for the same reasons. What are your favorite extensions? Mine is, so far, is Noscript.

If you use FF noscript is a must. It can save your bacon. Check out the link below or simply give it a try.

NoScript - JavaScript/Java/Flash blocker for a safer Firefox experience! - what is it? - InformAction

following the noble path is like entering a dark room with a light in the hand; the darkness will all be cleared away, and the room will be filled with light.
