ipod software

Hi everyone. I have a couple of questions for you. Basically, I'm going to be new to the ipod game in the very near future. So, I checked out the question about converting mp3's to 4's which I think is going to be a good start. What I'm curious about is I've seen that the ipod comes with software. So, I'm guessing I'll have to install it on my PC. What exactly does it do? Also, would you guys buy new or would you feel confident with a refurbished ipod with a warranty on it? Thanks!

If you haven't purchased an iPod yet, you should probably look at some of the newer competitors first.

For example, the SanDisk Sansa e280 8 GB MP3 Player looks pretty good right now.

Features
  • World’s first 8GB Flash MP3 player, the largest capacity in the market
  • Sleek, thin design with large 1.8” TFT color screen for easy viewing
  • Strong alloy metal casing provides excellent durability and scratch resistance
  • Simple to use, backlit controls for fast device interface navigation
  • User replaceable and rechargeable Lithium Ion battery for up to 20 hours of battery life
  • Includes the Sansa Media Converter to support all picture and video formats
  • Features microSD™ expansion slot for additional memory capacity
  • Supports SanDisk TrustedFlash and Gruvi content cards
  • Digital FM tuner, on-the-fly FM recording, and voice recording
  • Supports Subscription Music Stores

Oh wow! I think I need to research this more. I'll have to do some price comparisons too. I knew I wouldn't be able to stick to a budget for a gadget like this. Would you guys buy something like this refurbished?

I have a very very kidd-ish iPOD [since I am a very poor man :P]

Its iPOD shuffle 512 MB [with no display].

I want to hear the songs , without shuffling. Is there any option in itunes /ipod software to make shuffling off ?

and I find it very disgusting to insert songs in ipod using itunes . Is there any easier way to do this ? i mean just opy pate the song to ipod drive o something like that ?

Foroward to hear from you.

regards

Switched to Play in order mode (this is the middle setting of the slider on the back). You can manually modify the play order in iTunes by dragging tracks where you want them.

Have you tried the iPod Shuffle Database Builder? It appears that you can copy and paste files to your iPod Shuffle and then just run this program to build the database which makes them playable.
