Outlook express

My account server for Outlook Express keeps reverting to "127.0.0.1" on it's own. I change it to my POP3 server and get my e-mail but it always goes back. I have up to date McAfee protection. Did this come from a virus? How do I change it permanently?

Actually, it is probably McAfee which is screwing up your PC.

When you install McAfee and tell it to check your mail and your downloads, it muck with your Windows settings so that your Windows applications send all traffic through McAffee. It does this be telling them to talk to 127.0.0.1. The plan is for McAfee to relay traffic between your Windows applications and their actual Internet destinations.

Obviously, the plan isn't working for you.

McAfee's online support is less than helpful. Is your product still under support; can you call McAfee and yell until they fix it?

Alternatively, you may be able to work around this by creating a new Outlook Express account and setting the new account to be the default. McAfee will then continue to change the account which you are no longer using.
