Can you show us the full e-mail headers from one of the mails?

What e-mail client program do you use?

To see the full e-mail headers in Microsoft Outlook:

1. Open one of the messages.
2. Select the "View" menu.
3. Select the "Options" menu item.

The e-mail headers will be marked "Internet headers".

They will look something like this:
Quote:

Reading these headers will tell you as much as you can know about the person who sent you the e-mail.

ya but they come from so many different people and locations that its difficult to stop them all

I just use inbuilt spam control software in Outlook (or Thunderbird) as well as my ISP having spam control software which actually works well.

They send a report every month, and my total spam % of all my emails is usually around 70%

What can you do with the email header Will?

Just wondering what the point of tracking it is

LOCO appears to be being spammed by one person or one organization.

The SMTP header would help to determine who that person is.

For "normal" spam from across the Internet, looking at the SMTP header isn't as useful.

Once you have the header, is it best to report the person to their ISP?
Or perhaps to the police?

SPAM

That's what I do is reveal the full header, find the domain and report them to that domain to let them deal with the culprit. I know it's time-consuming, but it's really worth in the long-run, and they will stop them, so you'll be receiving less Spam. You must; however, copy and paste the full header to report it and put that in the body of the email just to be on the safe side.

Send a message via AIM to n3rdych1ck Send a message via MSN to n3rdych1ck Send a message via Yahoo to n3rdych1ck
The best way to prevent spamming is to not give your e-mail address out to every Joe Shmoe.. Make sure the only people you give it to are who you know personally or those who have a secure website and those who you trust to not sell it to spammers. Good luck!

A variation on that technique is to have two or more mailboxes.

One you keep for business and friends, and one you give out to online retailers and other people who are likely to sell your e-mail address.

Then, you can change the spam-receiving e-mail every six months or so.

I have a lot of mailboxes: one for personal use, a "general purpose" one, one for business use, and one just for signing up (this one gets a lot of spam). Spam is inevitable and all of my email accounts have gotten some sort of spam.

Separate email accounts are a must these days, I have at least 5 email accounts and they get varying amounts of spam.

Email bombers still work? I thought they were now considered obsolete.

E-mail bombing still works, it's just a bit more difficult than before.

I don't get email bombs any more, although I do receive 3 or so spam mails that sometimes come from the same address.
