Unknown or Invalid JPEG Marker Type

A bunch of my JPG files won't open. The error message I get is "unknown or invalid jpeg marker type."

The thumbnails on these JPEG's look fine, so I'm not sure what the problem could be.

The JPEG marker is part of the header for every JPEG file. It stores data about the image so that the graphics program can read the image correctly.

The error message "Unknown or Invalid JPEG Marker Type" is your graphics software complaining that the JPEG file is corrupt.

It is very common for thumbnails to display perfectly when the JPEG file is corrupt. Some programs generate thumbnails dynamically. These programs will not be able to generate a good thumbnail from a corrupted JPEG file. Other programs use the thumbnail image stored inside the JPEG file. Those programs will sometimes display perfect thumbnails, even when most of the JPEG image file is missing.

The "Unknown or Invalid JPEG Marker Type" error message can also appear if the file you are attempting to view is not a JPEG file. It could be a .GIF or .PNG file with the wrong file extension. This is not so rare an occurrence when downloading .JPG files from P2P networks.

did you try different image viewers ? I mean builtin windows Picture and fax Viewer , ACD See and others. Even you can try to open the file in mspait. [run->mspaint [enter] then open (ctrl+o) file location].

Is there the same message ? Or youn try to open that file in photoshop.

A bunch of files whowing these error you said. did you download all the files from same location or as will said from p2p ?

hope to hear from you.
