What script can compete with this mutant software?

Topic: The good and bad of a heavily modified phpNuke website script.

A heavily modified phpNuke can be really tempting for a non-programmer. The dynamic options based on groups and topics are endless, but I know...

...it's too 'boxy looking', hard to secure, etc. PhpNuke has some pretty impressive mutants. There is a very confusing field of 're-issues' (.ie RavenNuke, NukeNIP), which seem to good to be true, prior to wasting endless hours being called a hacker by your own security.

What is better?

Nuke can offer a community, integrated blogs, a link directory, forum, top tens, TV mods, group mods with very easy to use blocks only visible to the intended group, points systems, job board...

I'd be ashamed to admit how much time I've wasted with those things, so please suggest something flexable, fun, and powerful which is better (open source and free too)??

ps. If you like Drupal, I do too, but it may still have real problems with server load, and isn't a complete as NukeNip. IMO, Joomla amd Mambo are not the answer either. TikiWiki needs some Love, a better internal forum, and a host willing to give you 4x standard amount of PHP max post size...

...still looking.

Thank you.

Have you looked at Wikipedia's comparison of content management systems?

I don't use any CMS (I'm too fussy!), but for requirements similar to yours, a good friend recommends that you take a look at e107.
