Problem with ARP cache

I had just installed an ethernet connection from my laptop to the wireless router (since the wireless adapter failed), and though it showed me as connected at 100 mps, I couldn't access any websites, due to the ARP cache error. However, in running the arp cache clearing as instructed in the earlier posts, I kept getting the message that there is no such function or protocol, etc. on my computer, whether "netsh" or "arp cache". When I read about it on the help file, it said that ARP isn't used by Windows XP. So anyway, what's the problem, and how am I going to be able to connect to the internet?

Please post the exact error messages you are receiving and we'll work from there.

Windows XP definitely uses ARP. Anything that supports TCP/IP requires ARP.

I haven't had a chance yet to get back on my laptop and retry to run the arpcache in order to get the computer's exact response, however, in the meantime, I had to do the same on my desktop, which also is XP. However, interestingly enough, I noticed that the two had different responses to the request; my desktop seemed to do the clearing activity, but the only response I got was "ok", with a new command shell opening up, so I can only assume that it did it. On the laptop, when I got the message that windows needed to clear the arpcache, the way it put it was "flush" the arpcache. I even tried using that word in the dos command field, but it also wasn't recognized. I will have to get back to you on the exact message it gave.
