Question - Wireless reception unrespondant, help!

Hey,

For the past little while I've been having really annoying problems with the wireless reception. In my house I have two computers, one which is connected by a wire through my router/modem and the internet works fine. Although I have a little wireless stick that I put into a USB hub in my alternative computer (mine!) and it doesn't work, no lights on, nothing. Bam. Dead.

This is really frusterating since it worked only a few days ago until I accidently pulled it out and when I put it back in it just didn't work.

Now it says Windows doesn't reconize the problem, so I re-installed the wireless software and it doesn't let me open the icon to configure it nor is there the config stuff/network accounts on the taskbar.

I use a D-Link 512 wireless router.

Any help? Do I have to buy a complete new one?

Huh... odd... I wonder if you damaged one of the pins or something when you put it back in. I mean, just unplugging something from its USB port shouldn't cause your computer to un-recognize it.

How 'bout swapping things around, making your computer the one with the direct connect to router/modem/internet and put the wireless stick in the other computer.

When you re-installed the the software, did you uninstall it first, restart your computer and then install it again?

I'd also peep the manufacturers website and see if there are any updates for that wireless stick... shrug... just another avenue to double check before spending money.

Can't use it on another computer but I might be able to try.

I'm gonna bring it into the shop.

Sorry Waz, we couldn't solve the issue. I hope you'll come by and let us know what happened! I would like to know for next time.

My 2 cents: USB wireless cards are not that reliable, IMO. I do lots of business at my local computer shop and their techs would also confirm that statement. I recently had the same problem and installed a PCI wireless card and VIOLA!

The router my be out-dated too. I upgraded mine about a year ago, which made a huge difference. I wouldn't go with "N" technology though. Not yet, at least until they work out the bugs.
