Question WRT54G vs WRT54GS

I recently purchased a laptop from Dell. I want to buy a wireless router. I've read some reviews and decided to get a Linksys WT54GS. There is a previous version WRT54G minus the SpeedBooster. My understanding is that you only get the benefit of the SpeedBooster Technology if you have certain other components which use the same technology. I've listed the components listed under my Network Adapter

Broadcom 440x 10/100 intergrated controller,

Dell wireless 1390 WLAN mini card,

1394 net adapter

Can you tell if I would benefit from the router with Speedbooster Technology.

TIA

Fred

The Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g mini-Card doesn't support SpeedBooster, so you won't see an advantage to the WRT54GS over the WRT54G.

However, you won't see any penalty for it either -- except for the few extra bucks you probably paid.

Alternatively, for about $70 more, you can add a Linksys Wireless-G PCMCIA Card with SpeedBooster (WPC54GS) to your Dell.

You will see about a 35% performance increase, which may not even be noticeable to you.
