Best anti-virus/spyware software

What is the best anti-virus/spyware/adaware software out there? But it has to be free.
I use Spybot for spyware, ad-aware, and then a combination of several others as a firewall and anti-virus.

For free? I think most will go with AVG or Avast as the better ones. I believe there's a link to them in my sig!

I've got AVG and Kerio, as well as the ones I mentioned above. I'll have a look into ZoneLabs and Avast. Hopefully they will be able to suit my needs. Thanks Lyte!

I have used a lot of antivirus programs for free and for payment. I really think, that the ones, which you are paying aren't really so brilliant, that they are worth buying. It debends on your using of computer. If you are downloading a lot of files, doing some not_so_legal_things, you may cause a problems and that's your own mistake. I have been using computer for many years now and I haven't really actually had any virus on my computer. Maybe I am lucky. But the most best program with me is Avast, as it's free and it has large options. It is also a such of light and doesn't require very much RAM.

If I don't have any antivirus software on my computer, I will also get the free ones. The only time I would pay for one, would be if it came with a discount when I first bought my computer. Other than that, I'm happy with the free ones.

I'll vote for AVG being one of the best free AV programs.

Though alot of people won't pay money for their protection, it's sometimes good to support those that make the free programs (like Spybot S&D). The money is needed for further development, and sometimes the paid versions have more utilities.

Just my opinion, but I really dislike McAffee. I dislike Hotmail, too. And when you put that combination together, it spelled trouble for me.

I once read an email in Hotmail and deleted it. It automatically opened the next email (which I hate) and the next email had a virus which McAffee was supposed to block and it didn't. After many hours and getting rid of it, that turned me against both of those.

But that's only my experience and my opinion, for what it's worth!
