Rep Power: 0 | Firewall what firewall to do have on your computer? I have firewall protection (zonealarm) and it doesn't work. I mean for the most part it does, but last week I woke up and discovered my browser was hijacked! |

Rep Power: 6 | Hmm, I don't think I have a specific firewall per se on my computer! Isn't there one naturally built in via ones ISP and/or Windows XP??
I'll tell you though.. I'm going to get a router this weekend because that does create a firewall to keep naughty folks out. Routers are pretty cheap, have you thought of using that?? EDIT: Isn't it funny how things work out... so, I was looking through my control panel trying to figure out what (if any) type of sound card I had and lo and behold, there's an icon for "Windows Firewall!" I clicked on it and found that it was turn off. I fixed that real quick!

Rep Power: 3 | xp only windows xp has the built in fire wall. if you are talking about routers. i have a linksis and i use its built in fire wall and have not had a single problem. i am actually running 3 firewalls. my linksis, my xp firewall, and my motherboard has a built in fire wall and i have found that by running all 3 that i dont have any problems what so ever. im on the computer quite a bit and i dont run virus protection software, but i dont have a problem since i use 3 fire walls. |

Rep Power: 3 | I am really kind of dumb when it comes to setting security options and such.. I do know when I first tried to access the Internet with my new computer (running XP and Norton), I couldn't get it to connect to the Internet until I disabled Norton.
My brother is always having problems with emails and Norton.. alot of the time my emails to him bounce because his security is apparently set too high. |

Rep Power: 3 | Firewall I have used ZoneAlarm for years. Besides being "free" I can control all my software using it. I use it with 98se & XP pro !!! |

Rep Power: 3 | Well, here's the thing.. mine was preinstalled and is a "trial" version at that.. no disc or manual, so it's just possible a full blown version complete with what I like to refer to as 'de"structions might work better.. but Norton has always got my brother fuming. Quote: |

Rep Power: 0 | I use Zone Alarm, as I was using it before XP, and it is a good/free program and easy to use.
As for Browser hi-jacking a firewall will not really protect you from that you need spyware software.
Firewalls protect you from incoming traffic, your browser usually gets hijacked when you visit certain web pages and since you allow traffic in and out from your browser (or you can't browse the web) it would not help. |

Rep Power: 0 | I am using McAfee Personal Firewall (a big McAfee fan ) and it's been very reliable for me, I definitely recommend it! |
