| Trend Antivirus /start ramble
The other day a guy brought in his laptop and Wireless AP because he couldn't get it to connect. We setup everything and although the computer said "connected" to the AP it wouldn't pull an IP address. I know what your thinking, DHCP isn't turned on! I connected with a wire but still couldn't access the AP to see if DHCP was turned on (I set a static IP address). I booted up another laptop laying on the desk beside me and connected + got an IP address in a matter of seconds. I started to investigate and it turns out the Trend Antivirus that now comes with Dell consumer PCs and laptops has a "Personal Firewall" on it. It was blocking everything that wasn't selected and it had about 5 options to selected (which I only remember two, Direct Connect [wire] and Wireless). I turned off the firewall and everything worked fine. I've never seen a firewall actually block all network connections! Just thought I'd let you guys know in case you ever run into the same problem..
/end ramble
