Virus Creator?????

I read recently in the paper about a new virus that it being spread around the internet. I was just wondering what actually drives people to create these viruses. Why would someone just sit in a room and think, right I'm going to create a virus that is going to effect loads of people and cause they a load of trouble. What do they actually gain by creating these viruses.

I imagine if it's not for money, some do it cuz they can and some do it cuz they have behavioral issues.

And some do it because they use the virus to allow them to take control of huge groups of computers at once to serve their purposes (serve ads, denial of service attacks, etc).. I can remember years ago there were loads of sites where you could actually download examples of virii and experiment with them as well as Virus Creation apps that would create virii according to what you wanted to accomplish.. I imagine those types of things are still around.

As dgridley has said you can use a virus to take control of someone elses computer, in other words hacking into the computer. This can be very beneficial in the financial department for the hacker.

Those are called botnets. I had the source code to serveral in C++..

If I were to create a virus, I wuold command it to send me every passwords and account names of the victim.
