Question - What Anti-Virus do you use?

Just curious to what you guys in the community use as an antivirus. Right now i have Norton, It's alright i guess... it came with the computer so im not complaining :P. But i like McAfee more. I've also tried avast! too.

So post what you have and your opinion on it!

Since I've discovered Avast, I've stayed clear of Norton and McAfee, they are big resource hogs it bugs me that they come embedded in new computers. And by embedded, I mean it takes an exorcism to get them off!

I love Avast too, but it let me down recently. I installed it on a freshly formatted computer for a coworker and not even two weeks later he's brought it back to me badly infected. I have tried various methods of cleaning it, but it's still buggered. I even pulled the HD and put it in my virus fighting machine as a slave. It found numerous infected files and deleted them, but still it remains infected. After carefully looking over the highjackthis log I have discovered many other instances of virus/spyware activity.

I personally use ESET Smart Security on my main box and AVG on my laptop and Avast on my media TV puter. I guess safe browsing habits and common sense has helped me keep my computers virus free, as we all know there is no 100% perfect AV or spyware protection.

Bottom line: No anti-virus program is perfect. However, I do believe that you sometimes get what you pay for.

Canis..... Get rid of Norton.if you can !! I HAD Norton on 1 of my PC's and had a heck of a time getting it removed. I had to go in the "registry" and manually remove all the Norton B.S. Norton takes up too much resources (slows your system down).

I use AVG-Free Edition. Never had a problem with viruses

I did that once and my computer crashed beyond recovery. All I did was remove the Norton and Symantec reg entries, and boom, no more windows xp.

I would not recommend this method, even with a registry backup, I could not repair Windows. I have never used Symantec's removal tool, but I would definitely try that before anything. Also, if you uninstall things in the right order, it usually is successful from my experience.

migrate to Linux and say goodbye to viruses :P.

*I'm using a local antivirus called PCMAV, based on Avira/antivir engine. Although I just run Windows on a virtual machine, but I still be paranoid XD*

I use AVG and Search and Destroy for the cookies.

I need a paid version of a Search and Destroy. One you can buy from a shop. Not just a download. Any reccomendations?

I am not aware of any pay version or store bought one. Spybot has always been free. Why would you want to pay for something that is free? You can donate if you really want to help their cause.

I actually like McAfee - it is very much so a resource hog - but newer computers now-a-days can handle the hogging LOL

I have a buddy that doesn't use any anti-virus at all. But, he's a PC geek so I think he's not too worried. I'd be too nervous!

There are paid version. The free versions only get a certain amount of the spyware off your computer. A paid one will get them all off your computer. I have found a site that sells them now.

Blue, are you thinking of SpySweeper... that one does cost $29.95.

If someone's selling SpyBot (which I too think is free) then someone's taking advantage of people!

I agree. There is not a paid version of Spybot S&D. It has always been free and I hope it always stays free.
