What can you do with an IP address?

People always talk about hiding your IP address, but what could someone do if they knew yours?
Can they really hunt me down and stalk me?

Just a question of interest

yes

yes they can. not to scare you but if i have your ip address. i can get what ever i want off of your computer. as far as changing your ip address. well it depends on if you have a static or dynamic ip address, if it static, the you will need to talk to your isp to change it. but most people have a dynamic ip. so when you plug in your router for instance, your router finds an open ip and claims it. and no ine else in the world can use that ip as long as your router has it. but if you go unplyg your router for a couple of min. then when you plug it back on the net it ill have to go and look for an new ip address.

if you you want to know what your ip is then open command prompt, and type

ipconfig

you can play around in here like ipconfig/all , iprelease

dont forget there is a differance between your ipaddress and your mac address. your mac address is a specific address assigned to hardware in your computer that can not be changed. period.

I'm pretty sure what McDaddy means is one could potentially get everything. I know he knows if you've got a good security system the average hacker wouldn't be able to do much.

I was suprised when my brother (years ago) told me he has hundreds of "people" (bots of somekind actually) trying to break into his sites server everyday! And this is his own personal site/server... who would find breaking in there valuable?!
