| Retro Controllers For those of you that play emulators, what do you use for controllers?
Personally I use a Competition Pro digital joystick, they do a usb version now. I used to have one of these on the Amiga 1200, and still do but i've got the modern usb version for pc now, they're really good and last a long time. For those of you that want to use a joystick for retro gaming...you'll probably find if you've got a modern joystick that it's analogue, that means you get a full freedom of movement from it, great for modern flight sims and things like that, really it's just used for 3D stuff. However, we used to have digital joysticks, they work with a set of switches which are "on" or "off"...ie 1 or 0, digital, they're good (and almost essential) for 2D games.
For games that I want to use a gamepad for I have a hub to connect two Playstation 2 controllers to (into one usb port) and they work perfectly and the buttons are mappable to whatever I want (yes even the analogue sticks and vibration work). I got this because it was about the same price or cheaper than any PC gaming pads and I already had two PS2 pads and two PS1 pads so plenty to choose from and also, because the Playstation pads are the best I've ever used, I've never really been a huge fan of pads but the Playstation ones are the only ones I've ever really liked and been able to use properly. Most other stuff seems to be too big and/or badly shaped and not have a decent amount of buttons. |
