It Seems Girls Go for Computer Games, Too

Ha!

It Seems Girls Go for Computer Games, Too
By ALEX MINDLIN
Published: April 17, 2006

Women far outnumber men among game players aged 25 to 34, according to a study recently released by the Consumer Electronics Association, a trade group.

But their edge does not come from traditional console video game systems like the Xbox or PlayStation, which women are slightly less likely to use than men.

Rather, women tend to play "casual games" — simple, usually free computer games like Minesweeper, Solitaire or Tetris — that are often found on Web portals like Yahoo.

Steve Koenig, a senior analyst at the Consumer Electronics Association, said that his study did not ask women why they preferred casual games.

But he said that most casual games "are nonviolent, and are not necessarily supercompetitive against other players."

As a girl who has been playing video games for years, I find this interesting. I'm surprised that the article didn't mention the game "The Sims", it's got quite a reputation as being a game that attracts female players. In fact, the majority of "The Sims" players are female.

I think a lot of what a female player likes in a game depends more on her personality than her gender, though. My friends that play video games like a variety of games: some are non-competitive like the article states, but then again, some are extremely so!

Yeah, I'm surprised this article didn't get much of a reaction. I'm a girl... I like video games... and I like many of the non-traditional-girlie-type-games like Rainbow Six, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty... etc...etc... I like blowing stuff up and killin' off the bad guys! lol  I was kinda bummed when I went looking for girl clans for these games and found VERY few.

That's not very suprising to me...

Since my mother and aunt love Pogo.com (well I do too)

Games are for everyone...It reacts to our senses like smell, and we just overload on a good time...

Well, I am a woman and I seem to be weird in many of my friend's eyes. i run a newtwork for more than 10 sites already (mine) and I also spend a lot of time on the PC. You can quess I am good with games too and give my BF a run for his money already. This news is not that weird anymore and I love the fact more women embrace this activity.
