I don't know if anyone has or has ever used Team Speak but it is a very cool software program that allows your PC to act as a full time tele-conferencing device while you play your games, do group work over the Internet or just to use as a Phone. It's FREE as a client but someone has to set up a server to house the base service.
It's simple to use... Log into the server and select which "channel" you want to use. You can set up as many as you want. When you are on a channel, only the people on the channel with you can hear and reply. And it's all real time, no one-person-at-a-time stuff.
It overlays onto whatever you are doing and has individual sound controls so you can set your TS volume over your gameplay or whatever.
It's also VOX or speech operated so no buttons to hold down while speaking either. Completely handsfree. Makes two-fisted gaming MUCH easier.
And when you have games that have certain voice capabilities built into the game, like BF2 for instance, using the comms key still works!!! It just mutes the TS while you are pressing the comms key and resumes TS when you let off. Best of BOTH worlds!!!
Many game servers now come with a special listing of the TeamSpeak server address so you can join, FOR FREE, the TS chat for that game. In this case, no server is needed for you... you are just using thiers.
There are some other competing sofware packages out there but I sincerely like TS the best.
You can join me on TS anytime you want to do a little Modern Combat on BF2.
