127.0.0.1 problem

Hi, hope you can help me!

I know roughly what localhost is but the problem I am having is that EVERY time I try to access a web page there is a delay of up to 30secs while the browser attempts to connect to 127.0.0.1 This is incredibly annoying as I don't know how it started and also how to stop it. I have tried uninstalling and resinstalling browsers, run virus checks, spyware checks, checked the firewall etc etc. I have used Firefox, IE and Opera and it makes no difference. I connect to the internet using a Belkin router as I share the connection and have never had this problem before!

I've seen this happen for two reasons:

1. Web proxy configuration in the browser (and when you install a new browser, it pulls the bad config from your old browser...)

2. Content-checking software pointing the web browser to 127.0.0.1 to make sure that the browser only gets content that is verified to be virus/worm/trojan/spam free. This works well, until the security software breaks. Norton is a frequent troublemaker here.
