Don't use a program or website, look for a proxy list (easy to find with a search engine), you'll get a list of IP's, their ports and some other info about them, use them in whatever applications you want to go through a proxy, Opera has good proxy functions

Just remember, some don't support certain things like https

There's actually no way to tell if a proxy is blocked by any specific filter, except to try it.

Even if I had a copy of SmartFilter, Bess Edition here, it would not necessarily have the same filter configuration as the copy which is blocking you.

The best way to get around Internet filters is to setup your own proxy server and not tell anyone about it. If you keep it a secret, the Internet filters will never put it in their block lists.

As an alternative, have you tried the excellent Tor & Privoxy & Vidalia bundle for Windows? I'd like to see how Bess handles that.

You can also use Torpark to run Tor from a USB memory stick. Very cool!

The web content filtering vendors shut down these proxies pretty quickly.

kproxy worked for me a couple of weeks ago.

If you want a reliable proxy, you pretty much have to build your own.

The instructions differ completely based upon OS, proxy software, and all network gear which must be reconfigured. There is no "one" way to build a proxy.

You're a Linux user, right?

Does your Linux server have an IP address which is reachable from the Internet?

If so, just install PHPProxy or CGIProxy on your Linux box.

If not, then does your Internet connection give you a public IP? You can forward one or more TCP ports from your public IP to your Linux box. Then, you just install CGIProxy or PHPProxy.
