Pop up blockers that don't work?

I was just wondering whether anyone can tell me why sometimes pop up blockers just don't work? Every so often a pop up will just pop up on screen, even though I have the google toolbar, yahoo toolbar and Norton Internet Security 2006 which all have a pop up blocker built in. WHY???

One type of popup (or popIN) they can't stop is the ones actually embedded into the page as dhtml layers..

I know what GreenRoom means, these pop ups are the most annoying pops you can find, the ones that defeat the blockers. I've never heard of dhtml layers, could you please give us a bit more information.

Most popups are displayed by means of popping up a separate html page altogether.. a popup that uses dhtml layers is actually part of the page being displayed and so can't be blocked by conventional means as to the blocker it looks like a normal part of the page.

I'm not sure but does DHTML, stand for Dynamic HTML. Could you please do me a favour and explain what the difference between HTML and DHTML is. Is there much difference in the coding? Thanks in advance!

I see what you mean, do you think that it would be possible in the near future for pop up blockers being able to fight against this sort of thing.

Actually if you think about it, who in their right mind believes that pop ups are a good way of advertising, it is one of the most annoying forms of advertising that I know of.

Believe it or not, the skillful use of popups can really convert into solid cash for the webmaster... annoying to the visitor or not, alot do click on them.
