Web 2.0

What is Web 2.0? I mean, I know a little bit about it. Like you can plug in your website to a web tool, like say a real estate site coupled with Google earth to show visitors the exact location of each listed house. But I'd like to know more applications. I can't think offhand of any applications for everyday use on a general website.

Questions: Anyone got some faq's about web 2.0?
Has anyone here actually used web 2.0?

well web 2.0 is the second generation web culture. Frankly spekaing , I am not that master about web 2.0 , but I can tell you web 2.0 is more than definition I mean you can feel the power , but its a bit hard to describe it properly.

But stil you can read it or read it and wait for Will's comment.

Not me. Those "soft" definitions are the hardest for me.

"Web 2.0" seems to have a shifting and amorphous meaning. That just drives me crazy.

I'm waiting for Web 3.0.

Yeah. Right. And I'm waiting for the Terminator to come along and finish off skynet ( web 3.0 ). Personally, I think these web researchers have gone totally off the bend. Been watching too many sci-fi movies. LOL!

BTW, if we don't know WTF web 2.0 is ( and I checked up a lot of links on Google and most everyone seems to be in the same ditch ), how are supposed to make use of it?

It seems to me that "Web 2.0" is a top-down concept, while I am a bottom-up thinker.

If I find technology that meets a requirement, I'll use it. If it happens to be part of "Web 2.0", then that's fine too. I won't go out of my way to use any technology just because it has a fan group.

True. True. Mostly I follow the same practise. Who has the time to try out things for which you have no present need?

Thing is, like eeeboy says, web 2.0 as a concept excites me. Seems like they're on the right track. Like you plug in a GPS system with a city map to tell the driver whether he has to turn left or right. It seems to have a lot of practical uses and there's a lot of uncharted territory, which might be worth exploring.

just look at the lines from wikipedia ....

Quote:
Level-3 applications, the most "Web 2.0", which could only exist on the Internet, deriving their power from the human connections and network effects Web 2.0 makes possible, and growing in effectiveness the more people use them. O'Reilly gives as examples: eBay, craigslist, Wikipedia, del.icio.us, Skype, dodgeball, and Adsense.
Actually I find this example very valuable and helpful for you to understand the whole concept.

and another image from wiki ...
