del.icio.us, a clever domain name?

del.icio.us becomes a word if you take out dots; it becomes delicious. Is this a clever name? Does this help promoting the domain name?

All catchy domain names are mostly (if not, all) taken, and it's hard to come up with any catchy domain name nowadays. If you follow what del.icio.us did, you can probably come with other catchy domain names, but you still need to explain that del.icio.us is not delicious.com or delicious.net, but its del dot icio dot us.

What's your take on this?

del.icio.us - it's definately a cute name! It the first one I ever heard of designed with all the dots. Even with this cute and unique name, I have no doubt they had to do some serious marketing to avoid it being confused with delicious.com or delicious.net or any of the others.

I don't see why one couldn't use the del.icio.us idea again... with a different domain! There are a few cases where people have piggy-backed on someone else's idea. I'm thinking of that pixal site... milliondollarhomepage ... and then everyone and their mother had a pixel site! LOL

I have 5 sites that are based on the same cocept as del.icio.us.

webrevie.ws
siterevie.ws
blogrevie.ws
badgra.de
rudedu.de

I haven't done a thing with any of these since I registered them back in August because I've been busy with 3 other sites, but hopefully I will have them developed by the end of this year.

They are great! I was really impressed when I first saw del.icio.us. Then I realized how they had done it, but it was still a great way of getting people to return.
